Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important representative stated the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
